Orpheus Music Group
Matching People and Pianos...One at a Time.
People often ask us why we only show pianos by appointment. The answer is very simple - to ensure that you have the opportunity to completely focus on the sound of each piano you play. It is our belief that the best way to pick a piano is to pay careful attention to the sound and feel - without any distractions.
Orpheus Music is proud to represent Schimmel Pianos in the Mid-Atlantic region. We serve Virginia, District of Columbia, Maryland and surrounding areas. If you need warranty service, tuning, moving or other services, please give us a call and we are more than happy to provide you with any assistance you might need.
Charles has been collecting, buying and selling musical equipment since his early teens and has an encyclopedic knowledge of music and musical instruments. He spent much of his childhood learning at the feet of his uncle, William Claxton (legendary jazz photographer, founder of the Grammy awards and Pacific Jazz Records), and inherited a deep appreciation of all forms of musical expression.
After spending many years in high end retail, he acquired Orpheus Records, a renown DC institution, and has since expanded the business focusing on piano sales and restoration.
Still an avid concert goer, he attends shows ranging from indie rock to opera and classical music.
In addition to helping prep all of our pianos, Carolyn also manages our office and technology. As a member of the Piano Technicians Guild, the industries' professional association and primary educational body, she is always looking for new ideas to get the best sound and performance from each instrument.
If you visit our shop on weekends, you are likely to meet our grandchildren --- who are already learning the business.
As a family owned operation, we take a different approach from many traditional piano dealers. Instead of spending money on sales people and advertising, we concentrate on prepping our pianos to be the best instruments possible. From basic to tuning to regulation and voicing, our teams are dedicated to making each piano sound its absolute best before it comes to your home. Eighty percent of our time is spent on maintaining and preparing the instruments.
Whether you are buying a brand new Schimmel or a used piano, all of our instruments are maintained by Registered Piano Technicians, the highest certification offered by the Piano Technicians Guild, requiring many years of experience. The same technician who has worked on preparing your piano, will happily meet with you to discuss condition and is available to service your piano for years to come.
We look forward to welcoming you to our shop!
